Alas for what Lies Before is a collection of stories by Mohammad Mohammadali, the renowned Iranian author, which is published after many years being out of print. The stories are being narrated in the 1360s (according to Iranian calendar and equal to 1971 AD to 1981 AD), which was the difficult times of the establishment of Islamic Revolution and Iran-Iraq eight-years war. The stories are some of the best literary works reflecting the passions and troubles of those times in Iran. The setting of the stories is somehow similar to each other and the characters of them are usually labourers or impoverished social class. The reader would be profoundly affected by these stories which display suffers of usual people in a certain period of Iranian contemporary history and make a good relation with the reader’s historical memory.
